A big congratulations to the 2024 GoAbroad Innovation Award winners and thank you for your innovative work in the field of international education.

As the leading resource for meaningful travel, GoAbroad is pleased to present annual awards recognizing innovation in international education. The winners are selected by a prestigious and selective group of international educators known as the Innovation Awards Academy. Award recipients are announced each year during GoAbroad’s reception at the annual NAFSA: Association of International Educators conference. For 2024, the event took place on Thursday, May 31 at The Chicory in New Orleans, LA.

These awards acknowledge institutions, organizations, and individuals moving the field forward, and commend leaders in the community for their efforts to go beyond the conventional.

Special 2024 Humanitarian Award

This year we were also pleased to present a special Humanitarian Award from the GoAbroad Foundation. The award was presented to Kaseem Short, pastor of Thomas United Methodist Church in Kenner, LA.

Pastor Kaseem Short is a dynamic and inspirational leader known for his passionate preaching and community outreach. He serves as the senior pastor of a vibrant church, where he emphasizes faith, compassion, and social justice. Pastor Short is dedicated to uplifting his congregation and addressing local issues, such as poverty and violence. He is a strong advocate for youth mentorship and education, often organizing events and programs to support young people. His commitment to fostering spiritual growth and community development has made him a respected and influential figure in his community.

Pastor Kaseem Short opposed the Kenner, LA mayor’s Nike ban in 2018, emphasizing freedom of expression and social justice. Pastor Short urged the community to focus on unity, addressing systemic inequalities, and promoting understanding. This story inspired the GoAbroad Foundation, and founder Troy Peden visited Kenner, LA and Pastor Short to support the children in the community by donating new Nike shoes to many children. Troy said, “Regardless of what side you’re on…it was us telling the kids that there is another voice out there.”

Congratulations to Pastor Kaseem Short, and thank you for the tireless work that you are doing for the community. You are a great example for the world.
