With the launch of the new GoAbroad Internship Institute, the GoAbroad team is pleased to introduce you to the new faces who are working out of our Fort Collins, CO headquarters this summer. Over the coming week we will be featuring one-on-one interviews with each of our fabulous interns, providing some background on their role at GoAbroad and what they enjoy most about living in Colorado!
Today we round out our week of interviews by sitting down to learn more about Adriana Smith, the newest intern with GoAbroad’s partner, Life After Study Abroad.
Tell us about yourself and your position at GoAbroad.
I’m Adriana Smith from Miami, Florida. I studied Criminology and Spanish at University of Florida, and Applied Linguistics from New York University. I am travel’s #1 fan. I am the Life After Study Abroad Intern and I am tasked with increasing the magazine’s distribution and readership.
What is one of your remedies for dealing with culture shock/reverse-culture shock?
Breath, Appreciate, and Relax – When it is all new to me, I recognize the beauty in where I am. I begin to point out the similarities and differences between my country and the country in which I am in. I enjoy the moment that many people do not get to see or experience.
What would your personal hashtag be? Why/What does it mean?
#Curiouskitty – I may not be that adorable, fluffy feline that you were expecting, but I am super curious, sometimes dangerously curious and that’s why I have accomplished so much. (oooh….#pinkpanthermoments)
#traveltunnelvision – a destination I really would love to go to, for example Brazil, 2016 Olympics #traveltunnelvision
If you could have one super-power, what would it be and why?
Teleportation! To travel to anyplace in the world without the headache of waking up at 6am for your international flight. Yes! I can be anywhere I want to in a flash…
What is one thing you’ll never travel without? Why?
One thing? How about two things? Underwear and my laptop. Underwear – everyone needs to feel clean and refresh. Laptop – I need to communicate with my wonderful family and friends, plus my mom would go crazy if she doesn’t hear from me everyday.
