GoAbroad Internship Institute: Interview with Erin Oppenheim

With the launch of the new GoAbroad Internship Institute, the GoAbroad team is pleased to introduce you to the new faces who are working out of our Fort Collins, CO headquarters this summer. Over the coming week we will be featuring one-on-one interviews with each of our fabulous interns, providing some background on their role at GoAbroad and what they enjoy most about living in Colorado!

Today we sit down to learn more about Erin Oppenheim, who is working as the GoAbroad PR/Marketing Intern.

Tell us about yourself and your position at GoAbroad.

I’m Erin Oppenheim, I’m the PR/Marketing Intern, and a junior at Colorado State University studying journalism with a minor in French. I love music, listening to it, playing it, going to concerts, just everything music. And I’m a Texas transplant, a Tex-pat, if you will, originally from El Paso, Texas who loves puns. The worse they are, the better.

Of all the places you’ve traveled, what has been your favorite place?

Up until now I’ve only ever been out of the states once, when I spent a summer in New Zealand traveling around both islands, but I’m fairly confident in saying it’s my favorite, ask me again when I get back from my semester in France and I’ll let you know. But New Zealand was the trip that sparked my love of international travel, and I’ve been itching to go back since the day I left.

What house would you be sorted into at Hogwarts? Why?

I have it on very good authority that I am a Gryffindor through and through. Gryffindor’s are typically very adventurous, headstrong, and brave, almost to a fault, and I think that’s something I relate to.

What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?

This is the toughest question! All of them! Most recently I saw Vampire Weekend live at Free Press Summer Fest in Houston, and it was unreal, I still have trouble believing it happened despite having photographic proof. But, being second row for Dr. Dog and then touching Florence Welch from Florence + the Machine at Lollapalooza are also in my top shows of all time.

Who is your celebrity spirit animal? Why?

It’s probably a tie between Amy Poehler and Mindy Kaling! My obsession with Parks & Rec. aside, Amy Poehler has always been an inspiration to me. With everything she’s done for the representation of women in mainstream media, her web-series Smart Girls at the Party, and just her amazing sense of humor and passion for life is amazing. And Mindy, well Mindy is all around my hero. She’s show-runner, writer, and star of her own show, and gets paid to make out with Chris Messina among other handsome men. Mindy Kaling is living the dream.
